1947 Craftsman Mechanics Tools Catalogue now available in PDF!
« on: January 23, 2012, 12:44:28 PM »
Courtesy of Matt (m_fumich), the 1947 (or 1948, depending on how you want to look at it) Craftsman Mechanics Tools Catalogue is now available! Matt posted it in Word format, but I've converted it to PDF and it can be downloaded here:

Thanks Matt!

I just downloaded the catalog and was looking trru the pages when a question arose.

Where does it state the year? On page 40 it has a listing of tappent wrench applications for cars. It only goes up to 1941. If it is a 1947 catalog it should have listings to 1947. Car manufacturers didn't change their engines after the war until 1948 and up, so a 1947 engine would be the same as a 1941.

I'm guessing it's a 1941 or 1942 catalog. Of course if I missed the print date, then I'm wrong. Anyone have any comments?

There's a date of "11.47" at the bottom, left of p. 2.

This means the catalogue was really for 1948 (even though it is usually referred to as the 1947 catalogue).

I remember the last time that catalog came up for sale, the seller stated Nov 1947 and called it a 1948 (makes sense) I'll go back and check page #2. I wonder why Sears didn't upgrade the cars on page 40.

Thanks LG

That's one of the neatest covers I have seen on a catalog.

Thanks Matt!
I've already downloaded it and used it. 1948 was the last year that Craftsman had the 5499 and the 5500 large tap and die set. I could not find anything older than the 1949 catalog that's on Rose Tool. You are right. The resolution is great.

Thanks again,
JIS

Has anyone scanned any of the pre-war big book tool pages?

The 1942 catalogue is available here:
