Old Craftsman Logo
« on: November 25, 2011, 10:54:46 PM »
I wasn't able to find a good image of this logo, so I restored one. Feel free to use it if you need to.

Sorry, I had posted the URL for the before photo and not the album.

Wow! Nice job, decal doctor. That poor thing was barely there and you healed it. I saved a copy. Thanks!

Thanks guys!  Testors makes a kit for making water decals on your computer and printer. The kit is worthless, but I can't buy the special paper any other way.

Now that you know what you're doing, have a go at this one too!

I believe it's just slightly earlier than the one you already fixed...

Geez LG, I'm not sure that a real emergency room can save that one. What I did with the other one is cut and paste parts until it was close and then used the pen and eyedropper to replace pixels one at a time.  Can you find a better one some where?

I spent a few minutes searching and found this site;

The one that you are after is not there. I found the other one in an ebay ad. I need one that has at least part of it with the right color.

Ah, no matter. I thought you might have had some magical software that would fix it at the touch of a button; didn't realize it took real work!

I don't need that logo, just figured it needed restoring if it was easily done...

I'm guessing it took quite a while to restore. Those photo fixing programs have some amazing capabilities but from what I have seen, the learning curve is very steep.

Part of what complicates it on those, is, they are applied over wrinkle paint. The texture isn't in the decal itself, but it shows through. To make a template for a new decal you have to deal with getting rid of the wrinkle texture, and the resulting fuzzy outlines :(
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

OK, I took up the challenge. I couldn't do much for the outer ring, but I did patch it up a bit.
