Unique Craftsman Logo on an Axe Head
« on: September 05, 2011, 10:55:27 PM »
AA was no help on this one, so I'm gong to the gurus.  Not sure where I picked this thing up at, but I was cleaning out the shop today and found it and noticed what appeared to be the proper letters, but they were in an mild "S" shape and encircled(really more of an oval).  If anyone could help me out on this, that would be great.

The craftsman name was bought from Marion-craftsman tool co in 1927 by Sears (wiki) perhaps yours predates 1927 ?

That is the first Sears-era Craftsman logo and it is from 1927.

Here's an ad from 1927:

The logo was still in use until at least 1931, since the following is taken from the 1931 Power Tools catalogue:

Awesome item!
